Pomeranians in the living room

THE FUR OF A

Pomeranian

Grooming a Pomeranian requires a great deal of attention. The coat consists of a short, woolly undercoat and a long, full topcoat. During the coat change, which takes place between 4 and 12 months, the Pomeranian will shed its puppy coat and be replaced by a double adult coat. During this process, the pup may develop bald patches because the coat does not fall out evenly everywhere. After this, some longer spikes will emerge, marking the beginning of the adult coat. This phase is certainly not pretty and is therefore also known as the “ugly phase.” However, patience is ultimately rewarded, because if these longer spikes are not trimmed during the coat change, the Pomeranian will eventually develop a beautiful and full adult coat.

THE CARE OF

a Pomeranian

It is very important to keep the Pomeranian's coat and skin in good condition. Regular brushing and combing down to the skin can prevent tangles and matted coats. It is best to brush a Pomeranian against the direction of hair growth. Always start from front to back and use a good spray to prevent the coat from breaking. Naturally, the best way to do this will be explained during your visit to the salon. It is important to start brushing and combing the puppy immediately. Do this at least 2-3 times a week so that the puppy can get used to it. Furthermore, brushing helps improve blood flow, distributes body oils, and stimulates the hair follicles.

PUPPY TREATMENT FOR THE COAT CHANGE

Even a puppy needs a regular bath. This helps the puppy get through the coat change smoothly. It is therefore highly recommended to introduce your puppy to the grooming salon at a young age through a puppy treatment. This allows the puppy to get used to the unfamiliar environment full of sounds, smells, and touches. This will prevent a lot of stress and problems in the future. A puppy is welcome as soon as it has received all its vaccinations. Would you like your puppy to get used to the salon? With the treatment for puppies up to 6 months, we will let your puppy settle in in a safe and relaxed environment.

CUTTING A

Pomeranian

As soon as your Pomeranian has fully gone through the coat change, it can be styled. In our salon, your Pomeranian is styled exclusively according to the breed standard. It may happen that your Pomeranian has not yet fully gone through the coat change by the age of 6 months. We will always discuss this with you, and in this case, only the paws, ears, and rump will be trimmed. Naturally, this will be deducted from the total price of the desired treatment.

A RISK OF COAT PROBLEMS

Unfortunately, there is still a high demand for the bear or boo style, which poses a significant risk of coat problems. In the worst cases, this can even cause the coat to become bald prematurely, resulting in BSD or Alopecia. These are serious skin diseases in which the coat is so severely damaged that the skin turns black and the coat grows back little to not at all. Shaving the coat also has serious consequences for the Pomeranian. Therefore, a Pomeranian should absolutely not be shaved in warm weather. The double coat provides protection against the cold and sunlight. To ensure that your Pomeranian cools down properly in warm weather, the coat must be completely free of tangles so that the skin can easily release heat. The coat can be shortened, but never so short that the undercoat is cut. After all, a Pomeranian has such a beautiful and full double coat for a reason.

PROFESSIONAL

PRODUCTS WITHOUT AGGRESSIVE CHEMICALS

Naturally, we want to care for our Pomeranians' coat just as well as our own hair. That is why we use professional products from Tauro Pro Line in the salon. These products are made from natural ingredients and therefore contain no harsh chemicals such as silicones, parabens, alcohol, soap, dyes, and synthetic perfumes. These harsh chemicals are harmful to the coat and do not nourish it. For instance, silicones create a kind of liquid plastic layer around the coat. After a wash, it looks shiny and healthy, but nothing could be further from the truth, as silicones contain no nutrients. Often, these layers of silicones build up in the coat, making it heavy and lifeless. In the worst case, this can even cause skin problems accompanied by severe itching. To ensure the coat remains in top condition, it is therefore best to avoid these harsh chemicals.

A SUITABLE PRODUCT FOR EVERY COAT TYPE

Naturally, every breed has its own coat type, requiring specific care. The wide range of Tauro Pro Line products consists of items tailored to these different coat types. Additionally, Tauro Pro Line has developed a special line for white coats. These products ensure the maintenance of a radiant white coat without a warm sheen. Besides shampoos, conditioners, and masks, the Tauro Pro Line range also includes elixirs. These elixirs help improve and heal a damaged coat, as well as maintain a healthy coat. These elixirs can be added to any treatment. Most of the products we use are also available for purchase in the salon. This allows your Pomeranian's coat to be well cared for at home between treatments.
